Sneaking in at the last minute to claim the pop crown for the first six months of the year comes Carly Rae Jepsen, and I might say if she’s keeping up this vibe she’s gonna win 2017’s pop queen crown, to be honest. E.Mo.Tion. was perhaps the most underrated pop albums of the past ten years, spawning 80’s power synth hit-worthy tracks that sadly kind of was ignored, but there’s no ignoring her latest, it’s bold, beautiful, bewildering it’s Cut To The Feeling.
Everything about the track just screams perfect pop. It’s theatrical, poppy, jump around your bedroom at night singing into your hairbrush worthy. An upbeat ballad that intertwines the 80’s sounds with breathy harmonies and powerhouse chorus, “I wanna cut through the clouds, break the ceiling/ I wanna dance on the roof, you and me alone/ I wanna cut to the feeling.’
The track was originally written during sessions for Jepsen’s last album but will now be featured on the motion picture soundtrack for the upcoming film Leap! coming to theatres August 30. Listening to the track you just want to scream why was this not on the album? Did Jepsen perhaps know that E.Mo.Tion would be an underrated masterpiece and wanted to save the track for a bolder release on its own? Who knows? It’s out now and god damn it Miss Jepsen yasssssssssssssssssssssssss.
