Tasmania probably isn’t the first place that you think of when it comes to upcoming powerhouse musical talent. Well maybe we should all broaden our search for new music past the major capitals and start having a wider look. The last few years has seen the rise and further rise of tassie girl ASTA. From winning the Triple J Unearthed High competition in 2012, and commencing on her first national tour a year later things have only been looking good for her.

Now armed with some fresh new tracks ASTA is taking to the road again on her Dynamite tour. Before she hits the road this weekend she took some time to have a little chat about the crazy whirlwind life that is ASTA’s.

You’re heading off on tour again, are you pumped?

Super pumped!

You’ve already been on tour in 2015 what’s the feedback from the audience been like so far?

I think they liked it, lots of people were dancing which is so cool! Getting letters sent to me is really next level.

Seen anything crazy going on in the mosh pit at your shows yet?

An old guy totally in the moment doing air bass the whole set. My dream is to crowd surf one day, just building up confidence. Maybe this will be the time?

If you could have anything (prop piece of equipment) on stage with you no question asked, no amount of $$$ too much what would it be?

A big giant moon!

When you’re on stage do you dress to feel comfortable or to be stylish?

Both! Comfy boots, and always pants so I can do lots of squats.

You’re Tasmanian, whats the music scene like in the most southern state?

Lots of Ed Sheehan acoustic vibes and heavy metal acts!

Winning Unearthed High must of been massive, how has it affected your life?

I get asked that a lot, it really has been the biggest leg up. I’m forever grateful for how much radio play, and how supportive my fans have been through the station. It’s definitely been a journey.

If you could work with anyone living or dead who would you choose?

I’m loving Safia at the moment. It would be heaven to have a sing off with him. So sad I missed his set at Splendour!

How did the colab with Allday come about?

Short story really, I liked his voice, wanted to do something a bit different, sent the finished song to him and he did his thang! Can not speak highly enough about him. He is a very personable person which made the whole process really easy.

I imagine there’s a lot of fast food involved when you work with Allday for some reason?

He is actually more healthy than me. always sipping on that alkalised water. Vegans are very clean eaters!

Did your FB post asking for a new phone work? Did someone send you one?

Yes so happy with my new phone. I love my fans and they always come to the rescue.

You used to post a lot of photo’s posing with Vegetables. Whatever happened to all the veggie photos?

Life got busy, had to cut down and live off slices of bread for a while there! I’m getting back on track and want to start blogging again.

If there’s one thing that you want people to know about you what would it be?

I am a very open person, I have no secrets.
