TOUR NEWS | SPLENDOUR SIDE SHOWS

Did Thursdays Splendour in the Grass main sale come and go and you missed out? Did you perhaps go around and cut down the internet cables to your neighbours so that they didn’t beat you in the queue? Did a single tear slide down your cheek whilst you howled in agony because you were going to miss your favourite act?  Does all hope seem lost without those tickets? Well maybe you can relieve a little of that pain by feasting your eyes on the splendiferous side shows bought to you by the super heroes over at Secret Sounds.

There’s quite a few but I’m going to talk you through my five faves of the line up (full list bellow post). Let me begin with the one that caused me to cease up in excitement and shed a little sunshine into my world which is currently surrounded by NSW flood water. Mega babe, Senpai, Anime king Porter Robinson will be brining his full Worlds Tour to The Enmore and The Forum with guests Wave Racer and Cosmo’s Midnight. It’s going to be the first time Porter has toured the full visually dynamic tour to Australian indoor venues and I feel that up close in those spaces the tears will be flowing (from the beauty of the show, check out his Ultra set at the bottom).

and Elliphant will be teaming up to bring some Scandinavian rave-pop and rnb to both Oxford Art Factory and The Corner Hotel in July. This teaming up makes perfect sense. The duo have had a song together and they’re both kinda similar stylistically and geographically. I kind of saw this one coming but it didn’t stop me from screaming “YASSSS” at the top of my lungs when I saw it.

The last time MS MR were in Australia they played The Metro in Sydney and you’ll never guess where they’re headed again…. that’s right THE METRO + 170 Russell. I missed these guys last time they visited because I chose to be a good Uni student and study, well this time I’m not letting any of that stuff get in my way of seeing them. By the time they’re here they’ll have their sophomore album out and I’ll be pumping those glitchy tumblr-pop tracks all the way on my train trip from Newcastle to Sydney.

This next artist I have a love / hate relationship with. Sometimes I’m like yeah this is a good track, good work… then she goes on a Twitter rampage and I sit there thinking…. no. Azealia Banks will be making her appearance at The Metro and Prince Bandroom. She’s good but sometimes she just makes it a little hard to be on her side. I’m sure she’ll be throwing out the hardcore pop that came with her debut “Broke With Expensive Taste” and assuming no one throws anything on stage causing her to leave it should be a good set.

The last artist I’m going to mention before throwing in the full list are newcomers on their first venture into the Australian music territory “Years & Years“. These guys are the fresh danceable synths that you’re begging for. Playing at Oxford Art Factory and Howler these guys are sure to make the room shake. The guys are still really coming into themselves and their sound is constantly being revealed with each track they release of the debut LP due out this year. The guys have been making some big waves first appearing on Triple J before being scoped up by the Commercial radio and I fell that this of all the side shows will sell the quickest.

So there you have it, those are my five must see or I’ll die choices when it comes to the Splendour Side Show line ups. Of course there’s a lot more but I didn’t want to ramble on forever. To get you in the mood for the festivities this year check out the video below of Porter Robinson’s set from Ultra this year, Senpai Porter knows how to make a festival go awfffff!!!!
