MS MR have risen like the phoenix from the ashes of having all their new material stolen in a van robbery to return with a new fiercer fire. “Painted” has arrived as the lead single from their forthcoming sophomore album which is due out just in time for their appearance at Splendour In The Grass. From the opening thundering drum to the fading guitar at the end the track has me hook, line and sinker.
From the beginning there’s a frantic urgency to the track, Lizzy echoes “What did you think would happen?” over a thundering drum and dirty, grungy guitar. The track is an evolution for the group moving from the dance-floor ready electro-pop of “Secondhand Rapture” into perhaps a more grungy electro-rock orientated area of their sound. The duo have said that they knew from the beginning of the track that it would be their first single from the album and I think they made a great choice.
MS MR will be on Aussie shores in July for an appearance at Splendour In The Grass and (fingers + toes crossed) a string of headline shows in support of their new album. So to get yourself pumped for their return check out a live video of MS MR performing “Painted” at SXSW earlier in the year.
